Dual Credit Enrollment
Dual Credit at Your High School or On Campus
Iowa Lakes makes it easy for high school students to get a head start on college! Through our dual credit program, you can earn both high school and college credit at no cost—all while experiencing true college-level learning.
At Your High School
Dual credit classes are offered right at your local high school, taught by qualified teachers who meet community college credentialing requirements. These courses follow the same curriculum and academic standards as those taught on campus, so you’ll gain an authentic college experience in a familiar environment. Common options include English composition, college algebra, history, psychology, and introductory career and technical education courses. This option makes college credit accessible for students who may not be able to travel to campus.
On an Iowa Lakes Campus
High school students also have the opportunity to take Arts and Science courses directly on an Iowa Lakes campus. These classes—such as English, math, history, psychology, biology, and communications—are part of the college’s general education curriculum. Taught by college faculty and taken alongside college students, these courses give high school participants an immersive academic experience.
No matter which option you choose, dual credit classes help you:
-
Earn transferable college credit while in high school.
-
Explore academic and career interests.
-

Get Ahead on College Credits: Dual credit courses allow you to accumulate college credits while still in high school, giving you a jump start on your degree before you even set foot on a college campus.
-
Experience College Coursework Early: Dual credit courses introduce you to the rigor and expectations of college-level learning, better preparing you for your transition to higher education.
-
Save on Tuition Costs: Since dual credit courses count toward both high school and college, you can save money on college tuition by reducing the number of courses you’ll need to take after high school.
-
Increase College Success: Students who participate in dual credit programs are more likely to continue their education and complete a college degree on time. You’ll enter college with confidence, already familiar with the demands of college courses.
High school students from participating schools who meet the eligibility requirements can enroll in dual credit courses at Iowa Lakes. The courses are typically available to juniors and seniors, but eligibility can vary by district, so speak with your school counselor to learn about your options.
Dual credit courses span a variety of disciplines, offering both general education classes that are easily transferable to four-year institutions and specialized courses for students interested in technical careers. Whether you want to explore your interests in business, health sciences, the arts, or STEM, Iowa Lakes offers courses designed to help you get ahead.
