GET A HEAD START ON COLLEGE

The Senior Year Plus (SYP) program at Iowa Lakes Community College offers high school students a valuable head start on their college journey by earning college credit while still in high school. Through partnerships with local school districts, SYP provides access to rigorous, college-level coursework that helps students save time and money—and gain a competitive edge for college or the workforce.

Under the SYP umbrella, students can explore multiple academic pathways, including concurrent enrollment and career academy, allowing them to tailor their education to meet their individual goals and career aspirations. Iowa Lakes is committed to expanding access to higher education by ensuring these opportunities are available to students in grades 9–12 through structured agreements between high schools and the college.

Eligibility for SYP can be demonstrated through:

  1. Scores on the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP)

  2. Other college readiness measures agreed upon by the school board and the postsecondary institution

  3. Alternative qualifying measures established by the school board

Note: Students enrolling in Career and Technical Education (CTE) dual credit courses are exempt from proficiency testing.

By promoting academic rigor, dual credit attainment, and meaningful career exploration, Senior Year Plus ensures equitable access to high-impact learning experiences—empowering students to make the most of their senior year and beyond.
