Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is a nonprofit, nationally recognized honor society with chapters at nearly every community college across the country. Membership is by invitation only and is based on academic achievement criteria set by each college.

  • Enrollment at a college with an active Phi Theta Kappa chapter
  • Completion of at least 12 credit hours toward a degree (or 6 hours toward a one-year certificate)
  • A minimum GPA—often 3.5 or higher, depending on institutional standards

Recently, Iowa Lakes PTK students helped lead a Student Hygiene Product Drive, supporting students in need by collecting essential toiletries and hygiene products. The initiative reflects what Phi Theta Kappa is truly about: academic excellence paired with service and compassion.
