CORNHOLE CLUB DEBUTS AT IOWA LAKES WITH SUCCESSFUL FIRST MEET
Iowa Lakes Community College introduced a new opportunity for student involvement this fall with the creation of the Laker Cornhole Club. On November 22, the club hosted its first home meet on the Emmetsburg campus, bringing together students, staff, community members, and eight visiting teams from Iowa, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Michigan. The event followed the American Cornhole League (ACL) format, featuring Singles, Doubles, and Teams play.

The club is led by Jesse Grossnickle and includes 8–10 current student participants. Open to all Iowa Lakes students, the Cornhole Club offers a place for both recreational players and those interested in competitive play.
“This is a great opportunity for students to make new friends on campus,” Grossnickle said. “The best part about cornhole is that anyone can learn the game, whether they want to be competitive or just have fun.”
Affiliated with ACL College, the club will take part in Iowa ACL regional events, area tournaments, and local leagues throughout the year. Students also have the chance to qualify for College Cornhole Nationals by earning first place at an ACL-sanctioned event. The November 22 meet provided the public with a look at the club’s early progress and interest from students. “It is exciting to be on the ride as the sport grows,” Grossnickle said.

Looking ahead, Grossnickle plans to introduce cornhole to area high school students, share information about the sport, and highlight the opportunity to participate at the college level. With its first event completed and more plans underway, the Laker Cornhole Club adds a new and accessible activity to campus life at Iowa Lakes.
