Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees Highlights Student Leadership and Welcomes New Faculty

Student leaders

ESTHERVILLE, IOWA – The Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees held its September meeting on Tuesday, September 16, at the Administrative Offices in Estherville. A key focus of the meeting was the introduction of student leaders representing the Estherville, Emmetsburg, and Spencer campuses, along with graduate assistants who will be serving across the college this academic year. Trustees also welcomed new faculty members to Iowa Lakes.

Student Leadership Presentations

Vice President of Student Services, Troy Larson, introduced the 2025–26 student leaders, who shared with the Board their excitement about serving their peers and helping shape the student experience at Iowa Lakes.

New Faculty Introductions

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Kyle Norris, introduced the following new faculty members joining Iowa Lakes for Fall 2025:

  • Alexis Mart – Agriculture Technology Instructor
    Alexis is a recent graduate of the agriculture programs at South Dakota State University and most recently worked as an Agronomy Specialist at a regional cooperative in the service area.
  • Troy Powers – Wind Energy Instructor/Coordinator
    Troy brings an extensive background in wind energy. He began his career as a field technician and later taught wind technicians nationwide seeking certifications through the Global Wind Organization.
  • Jessica Resutek – Assistant Chief Flight Instructor
    Jessica comes with experience in aviation education and as a professional pilot. She most recently served as a first officer with Sun Country Airlines on 737 aircraft. A graduate of Minnesota State University–Mankato’s aviation program, she began her career as their Assistant Chief Flight Instructor.
  • Tiffany Saunders – Aviation Ground School Instructor
    Tiffany has held multiple roles in aviation, including serving as ground school instructor for CAE in Dallas, Texas. She has flown professionally for Envoy and Mesa Airlines and holds a business degree from Western Washington University.
  • Phillip Zabka – Farm Equipment & Diesel Technology Instructor/Coordinator
    Phil brings over 25 years of experience servicing agricultural equipment in northwest Iowa. Most recently, the service manager at a KC Nielsen location, he holds many John Deere certifications and is a graduate of Minnesota West.

The Board also reviewed personnel changes, financial reports, course fees, and heard updates from the Iowa Lakes Foundation on recent donations in support of the College’s mission.

The next regular Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Administration Building in Estherville, beginning with a work session at 4:00 p.m. and the formal meeting at 4:30 p.m.
