Iowa Lakes Announces Third Age College Fall Series in Spencer

 (SPENCER, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College will offer two new Third Age College courses this fall as part of its Seniors Active in Learning (SAIL) program, designed for adults who want to stay engaged through lifelong learning. Both classes will meet on the Spencer campus and run September through December.

The first course, “Wonders of the National Parks: A Geology of North America,” begins Monday, Sept. 15, and meets weekly from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Through lectures by geologist and National Geographic director Ford Cochran, participants will explore the geological history of national parks from Yellowstone to the Everglades. No prior science background is required.

On Wednesdays starting Sept. 17, the class “Starring Paul Newman” will showcase the nine films that earned the legendary actor Academy Award nominations between 1957 and 2003. The series includes Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict, and Road to Perdition. Sessions will also be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
