PRESS RELEASE: THIRD ANNUAL WHISKER WALK BRINGS COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO SUPPORT PEOPLE FOR PETS
EMMETSBURG, Iowa — Iowa Lakes Community College students, employees, and community members came together for the third annual Laker Whisker Walk, raising funds and collecting much-needed supplies to support People for Pets in Spencer.
Held Sept. 16 at the Iowa Lakes Emmetsburg Campus, the 5K event invited participants to walk with their own pets or take to the course with a shelter dog from People for Pets. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event benefited People for Pets.
The Iowa Lakes Student Senate and Veterinary Technician program helped sponsor the event through student volunteers and financial contributions. Community members also supported the effort through monetary donations and donations of needed shelter supplies, including dog and cat food, toys, and cat litter.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support this event continues to receive from our students, employees, local businesses, and community members,” said Brenda McAllister, Wellness Center Supervisor at Iowa Lakes Community College. “The Whisker Walk is a fun way to bring people together, but more importantly, it gives our students and community an opportunity to make a meaningful difference for animals in need.”

Hy-Vee in Emmetsburg provided a generous donation of dog and cat supplies for the shelter, adding significantly to the items collected through the event.
Iowa Lakes also extends its appreciation to the staff and volunteers at People for Pets who brought shelter dogs to the Emmetsburg Campus to participate in the Whisker Walk. Their involvement gave participants the opportunity to spend time with the dogs while supporting the work People for Pets does for animals in the region.
The annual Laker Whisker Walk provides an opportunity for Iowa Lakes students, employees, local businesses, and community members to come together in support of an organization serving animals in northwest Iowa.
