Blog: Iowa Lakes Men’s Soccer Ready for ICCAC Play

The Iowa Lakes Men’s Soccer team is back on the pitch and ready to take on the challenges ahead as they work to live up to the high expectations surrounding the program this season.

Head Coach Ben MacRae is excited about the potential he sees within this talented and hardworking group. The team has been building its identity around strong possession, forward play, and a commitment to working for one another.

“We have players who are comfortable on the ball, committed to building the game the right way, and willing to work for one another,” MacRae said.

That team-first mentality has already been put to the test.

The Lakers opened the season with an incredibly demanding schedule, facing nationally ranked opponents in each of their first seven games. Competing against some of the best teams in the country has challenged the team to bring its best from the opening whistle and provided valuable opportunities for growth.

While the competition has been tough, the experience has helped the Lakers continue to develop both individually and as a team. With players from different countries and backgrounds coming together, the relationships and chemistry developing within the group have been one of the most exciting aspects of the season.

Now, the Lakers turn their attention to ICCAC play—and they aren’t planning to let up.

The team enters conference competition with high expectations and a determination to continue improving with every match. At this level, consistency is critical, and the Lakers know they will need to make smart decisions, capitalize on scoring opportunities, and continue playing with confidence and intensity.

There is still plenty of soccer left to play, and the Lakers believe their best is still ahead of them.

As the season continues, Iowa Lakes fans will have plenty of opportunities to support the team at home. The Lakers have several home matches coming up and would love to see the community out on the pitch cheering them on.
