PRESS RELEASE: JIVE FOR FIVE BRINGS “FROM BACH TO ROCK” TO ESTHERVILLE PERFORMING ARTS SERIES SEPTEMBER 22

Jive for Five Brass Quintet

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa — An evening of music ranging from Bach and Mozart to the Beatles, Duke Ellington, Broadway favorites, and more is coming to Estherville when Jive for Five! From Bach to Rock! takes the stage as part of the Estherville Performing Arts Series on Tuesday, September 22. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center at Iowa Lakes Community College and features an Iowa-based brass quintet whose five members bring decades of experience as professional musicians and music educators.

Jive for Five has built a repertoire of more than 300 selections spanning classical masterworks, jazz standards, marches, Broadway, patriotic favorites, and popular music. The ensemble features Tim Miller and David Swaroff on trumpets, Kathy Yoakam on French horn, Dan Cassady on trombone, and Paul Bloomquist on tuba. Together, the musicians represent more than two centuries of combined experience in music education and performance.

All five members are current or retired music educators who remain active as performers throughout Iowa. Their extensive backgrounds as both educators and musicians will also provide a unique opportunity for area students while the group is in Estherville.

As part of their visit, members of Jive for Five will work with the Estherville Lincoln Central Marching Band and the Iowa Lakes Jazz Band, sharing their experience and musicianship directly with student performers.

The ELC Marching Band will then kick off the evening with its Community Performance at 6 p.m. at the ELC Stadium, giving community members an opportunity to support local student musicians before heading to the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center for Jive for Five at 7 p.m.

The ELC Marching Band clinic is supported by an ELC Patrons of the Fine Arts Cultural Enrichment Grant.

Bringing opportunities like these to the region is an important extension of the Estherville Performing Arts Series. In addition to providing access to professional performances close to home, visiting artists can connect with students, schools, and the broader community through educational experiences that extend the impact of the arts beyond the stage.
