PRESS RELEASE: GET AHEAD THIS WINTER BREAK: IOWA LAKES ANNOUNCES ONLINE WINTERIM COURSES

(Estherville, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College is inviting students to get ahead this winter break by enrolling in its accelerated online Winterim session. Running December 23, 2025, through January 18, 2026, Winterim offers a convenient opportunity for students to stay on track, catch up, or move ahead in their academic goals before spring semester begins. Registration is now open.

Winterim courses include, but are not limited to:

  • Introduction to Business
  • Human Relations
  • Children’s Literature
  • Medical Terminology
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Western Civilization

“These short, intensive courses give students a chance to earn credits from anywhere during a time that may align better with work and family schedules,” said Laura Howard, Dean of Distance Learning at Iowa Lakes Community College. “Winterim provides flexibility without putting academic progress on hold.”

Flexibility and Online Options Continue to Grow at Iowa Lakes

The online and distance learning options at Iowa Lakes are designed to meet the needs of today’s learners, especially:

  • Working adults balancing education with employment
  • Parents needing flexibility around family schedules
  • Students who live outside commuting distance
  • Learners accelerating their pathway toward a degree or certificate

The college offers a wide range of popular programs and general education courses online, allowing students to advance their studies from any location. Many students have successfully achieved their IT through Iowa Lakes’ online programs—earning degrees, transferring to four-year institutions, or advancing in their careers through flexible distance learning options.

Open to Current and Visiting Students

Winterim classes are open to both current Iowa Lakes students and visiting students from other colleges or universities seeking transferable credits. Courses fill quickly due to the short session length and online format.
