Our Work-Study Program allows student to earn money while enrolled at Iowa Lakes to help with educational expenses.
The Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) provides part-time jobs for students with financial need to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work related to your course of study.
Student eligibility for employment under the Federal Work-Study Program is based on financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Assistance (FAFSA).
Iowa Lakes' students are encouraged to begin their job search, arrange interviews and apply for work-study positions during the first two to three weeks of the semester.
Please note that funding for the Federal Work -Study Program is limited, and not all students who are eligible can be placed in the program.
Interviews & Hiring
Students will be interviewed by their immediate supervisor. Federal Work-Study eligible students receive preference in hiring.
Getting Paid
- Pay rates and job descriptions for Federal Work-Study funded positions are available in the Financial Aid Office.
- Once hired, students will complete a timesheet and are paid on a monthly basis.

Determine Work-Study Eligibility
Simply contact the Financial Aid Office which questions regarding Work-Study eligibility. Students should follow the steps outline below or visit the Financial Aid Office to complete an application and to pick-up any required forms.
How to Get Started
- Complete a Work-Study Application. This is available in the Financial Aid Office.
- Complete an Iowa W-4 Form
- Complete a Federal I-9 Form
