Volunteer Appreciation Day at Dickinson County Nature Center

(Spirit Lake, Iowa) The Dickinson County Nature Center, together with Dickinson County RSVP, will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Day for current nature center volunteers and prospective new volunteers at 10 a.m., Monday, March 2.

The Volunteer Appreciation Day will be held at the Dickinson County Nature Center located at 22785 Nature Center Road, in Okoboji. Coffee and refreshments will be available.

The nature center currently has more than 50 active volunteers who donated more than 1,600 hours in 2019, including RSVP volunteers 55 and older. Volunteers greet visitors to the nature center year-round, answer phones, give tours, and assist with other activities as needed. During June through August, volunteers also welcome visitors, offer tours, and answer questions about the Westport Schoolhouse.

With the recent Pollinator Paradise addition, the Dickinson County Nature Center is looking to add more volunteers at the front desk and as docents. Volunteer Appreciation Day is a great time for those potentially interested in volunteering to learn more about the volunteer opportunities available at the Nature Center while meeting staff and talking with current volunteers. Volunteer training sessions will take place at 9 a.m. March 26, 27, 30, and 31 at the nature center.

DeNeitt VanDenBroeke, RSVP Coordinator in Dickinson County, will be available at the Volunteer Appreciation Day to thank RSVP Nature Center volunteers and to share additional volunteer opportunities throughout the county for anyone 55+. Volunteer placements with area food pantries, Meals on Wheels, in elementary schools, providing medical transportation and a host of community activities and events are available through RSVP.
