Trustees Set Tuition at Iowa Lakes for Upcoming Year
(Spirit Lake, Iowa) The Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees approved tuition and fees for the 2019-2020 school year during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday afternoon in Spirit Lake.
The Trustees approved to set in-state tuition at $183 per credit hour, with Minnesota residents paying $188 per credit hour. Online course fees will be $189 per credit hour, while non-residents and International students will pay $194 per credit hour.
An additional highlight of Tuesday’s meeting was the presentation on the Dickinson County RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) provided by Patsy Donovan, Dickinson County RSVP Coordinator. The RSVP program is a federally funded grant program and has been housed on the five campuses of Iowa Lakes Community College since 1977.
“Our program consists of 116 volunteers, who range from 50 to 93 years of age and are actively involved in a variety of volunteer activities. Some of these volunteer activities include providing transportation to doctors’ visits, assisting with mailings, and mentoring and pen-pal programs in the Okoboji and Spirit Lake School districts,” said Donovan.
Donovan shared more details about the pen-pal programs and stated,
“Our pen-pal program provides our volunteers with the opportunity to be paired up with a student in the fall. Once paired up, volunteers and students trade letters back-and-forth. Then in the spring, a party is held, and our volunteers and the students finally get to meet and often remain in contact.”
In other action, Robert Leifeld, Vice President of Administration, presented the list of Spring Graduates, which was approved.
Delaine Hiney, Executive Director of Facilities Management, was granted board approval to renew the college-wide multi-jurisdictional hazardous Mitigation Plans.
She also reminded the Board that contractors will soon be on campus to upgrade the dorm access system and to install a new card access system that will require a photo ID card for campus entry.
“The system will allow us to quickly change a person’s access rights to the college and dorms, creating a more secure environment,” said Hiney.
Jolene Rogers, Executive Director of Community and Business Relations, presented that Iowa Lakes was awarded their entire request for $171,000 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for Accelerated Career Education programs. These funds will be used to expand Emergency Medical Services programs and will create a new Renewable Energy Technician non-credit training program focused on solar and low voltage.
She also highlighted upcoming summer events. On June 6-7, the Lakes Health Conference will be held featuring Shannon Miller, Olympic Gold Medalist and cancer survivor, and on June 20, the Dickinson County Non-Event Scholarship Fundraising event will be held.
The next meeting of the Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Spencer Campus, 1900 Grand Ave, Spencer, Iowa.
