Trustees Approve Plans to Move Forward with New Farm Lab Facility at Iowa Lakes College Farm
(Estherville, Iowa) The Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees met Tuesday afternoon via Zoom to maintain social distancing measures.
Delaine Hiney, Executive Director of Facilities Management, received approval to move forward with the plans and specifications to construct a new Farm Lab Facility at the Iowa Lakes Community College Farm located on the Emmetsburg Campus.
“The Lab facility is a one-story, 7,600 square foot building and associated worksite constructed using ACE funding,” said Hiney.
Iowa Lakes Community College will be requesting bids for the proposed Farm Lab Facility. A public bid opening is scheduled for Monday, May 18, at 2:00 pm.
Hiney also provided an update concerning Iowa Lakes Community College and its continued response to COVID-19.
“Iowa Lakes Community College has been actively working with Emmet and Palo Alto County Public Health to prepare for a COVID-19 surge. Dorms on both the Estherville and Emmetsburg campuses have been cleaned and are ready to be used by local hospitals if needed,” said Hiney.
Hiney also shared, “A building separate from the main campus has also been cleaned and is ready for use as an Alternate Care Center.”
Jolene Rogers, Executive Director of Community and Business Relations, addressed the Trustees about two new donor contributions to Iowa Lakes Community College.
Trustees accepted a donation from Adam Dearchs, Sportsmans Corner, in Algona, Iowa, of a 1995 GL1200A Honda Gold Wing, 1996 GL500A Honda Gold Wing, and 1999 1500C Valkyrie. These donations will benefit the Powersports & Power Equipment Technology program located on the Emmetsburg Campus.
Rogers also received approval to accept a $5,000 scholarship donation for the Iowa Lakes Summer Jazz Camp from Cheryle Himes.
The Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees then approved applications to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for the 260G ACE Job Credit Training programs.
The next meeting of the Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees will be on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, beginning at 4:30 pm at the Spirit Lake Campus, 800 21st Street, Spirit Lake, Iowa.
