TRIO - SSS

To qualify for TRIO-SSS a student must have the intent on transferring to a 4-year college or university and meet one of the three qualifications listed below:

• Neither parent or student has graduated from a 4-year college or university and/or, 
• The family meets our federal income guidelines, based off of the family’s TAXABLE income level and/or, 
• The student has a documented disability.

The TRIO-SSS program is a FREE program committed to helping students succeed and obtain their educational goals. Our services enhance academic skills, increase retention and graduation rates, and facilitate the transitional process to the next level of higher education.

TRIO-SSS Academy: TRIO-SSS students are automatically enrolled in the TRIO-SSS Academy on Canvas where they can access all the TRIO-SSS resources

Academic Enhancement: TRIO-SSS offers Professional, Peer, and Online Tutoring. Professional and Peer tutoring is offered in person and virtually. Online tutoring is offered 24/7 in over 250 subjects via tutor.com

Career Advising: We assist students with career exploration, resume writing, and interviewing skills. An essential part of the college experience is identifying interests and skills and matching these with possible career fields.

Cultural & Educational Enrichment Opportunities: Students will have an opportunity to participate in various cultural events and leadership opportunities. Activities take place both on Iowa Lakes Community College campus as well as in other communities.

Financial Literacy: We assist students with understanding the financial aid process, budgeting tips, credit card debt management, types of aid available, scholarship opportunities, along with deadline requirements, and scholarship essay writing.

Peer Mentoring: TRIO-SSS participants who are first-time, full-time Iowa Lakes Community College students are assigned a peer mentor. Peer mentors are sophomore TRIO-SSS participants who are available in person and via email to assist students with study skills, time management, location of community and campus resources, and personal support.

Transfer Counseling: We assist students in exploring colleges and areas of study by providing college visits and assistance with transferring to a 4-year college. Communication and support are provided through office visits, weekly emails, monthly newsletters, and social media accounts.

Workshops: TRIO-SSS offers workshops in person, virtually, and online. All participants have access to StudentLingo, an online platform with workshops covering topics on Exploring Careers, Stress Management, Study Skills, Time Management, Text Anxiety, Financial Literacy and more.
