Iowa Lakes Community College celebrates the academic achievement of students in many ways, including celebrating Academic Honors and Commencement Ceremonies.
2023 Spring Commencement

Estherville Campus
3:00 PM
The spring commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Estherville Campus. Graduates should arrive at the campus by 2:15 p.m. and use entrance 1 on the west side of the building. Guests can use entrance 2. Once you arrive, you will be directed to a room where you will find your cap and gown. You will also receive information concerning the procession across the stage to receive your diploma cover; there is no rehearsal.
Instructions For Students Attending Commencement
- Report to the room indicated on the list below, between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m.
- Your cap and gown will be ready for you in the appropriate room.
- Pick up your card with your name and program. It will be with your cap and gown.
- You will be lined up in alphabetical order by program by 2:45 p.m. Remain in the room until your group is called.

Graduating students are invited to take part in our Commencement Ceremonies that are held following the completion of the spring and summer terms.

Students meet degree requirements at other times during the year are invited to attend either the spring or summer ceremonies.
What’s the difference between graduation and commencement?
Graduation is the process you go through to have your degree posted on your transcript. Commencement is the ceremony where we honor the academic achievements of our students.

- Meet with your Academic Advisor
Iowa Lakes Students should plan to meet with their academic advisor to discuss the completion of your certification or degree requirements. - Apply for Graduation
Iowa Lakes’ students are encouraged to apply for graduation upon completing registration for your final classes needed to complete your degree or certificate.
Apply for Graduation - Confirm Your Graduation Status
The Iowa Lakes Records Office will evaluate your academic record for graduation. If you’re a candidate for graduation, you will receive a notification. If you have questions regarding your graduation application status please contact the records office by email - Cap and Gown Fitting
Candidates for graduation will be notified to be fitted for their cap and gown to take part in the Commencement Ceremony. - Participate in Commencement
Students are strongly encouraged to work directly with their Academic Advisor, rather than self-advising, to ensure all degree requirements are met.
