Spring 2019 Commencement Exercises are May 10

The Spring 2019 Commencement Ceremony for Iowa Lakes Community College will be held Friday, May 10. Following the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters, 314 students have completed or are in progress to complete the requirements for their degrees or diplomas at Iowa Lakes. Nearly 200 students plan to attend the Commencement Ceremony.

The ceremony will start at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Estherville Campus. Guests are advised to arrive early to ensure seating.

College President Valerie Newhouse will welcome attendees at the commencement exercises. Janice Lund, president of the Board of Trustees, will acknowledge the Trustees.

Vice President of Administration, Robert Leifeld, will lead the special recognition section of the evening which will include Chad Tischer, Engineering Technology Instructor/Program Coordinator, introducing the Presidential Scholars and Debra Weston, Iowa Lakes Alumni & Friends Association, presenting the Jim Hall Outstanding Alumnus Award.

Keynote speakers this year include Lincoln Larsen and Gabriela Reis.

Larsen is from Hinton, Iowa and completed his Associate of Arts degree. He will be introduced by Carol Ayres, Professor Instrumental Music/Jazz Band.

Reis is from Petropolis, Brazil and completed her Associate of Arts degree. Todd Peters, Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Coach/Enrollment Coach, will introduce Reis.

Leifeld will then lead the Presentation of the Candidates followed by Pat Kibbie, vice president of the Board of Trustees, who will conduct the Conferring of the Degrees and Diplomas.

Dr. Martha Olson, Professor, and Johnny Hurley, Professor, will lead the roll call of candidates. President Newhouse will present the Diplomas and Degrees.

After the ceremony, everyone is invited to attend a reception to be held in the college 4-plex.
