Nursing Program Achieves Perfect NCLEX Pass Rate

(Emmetsburg, Iowa) In a remarkable display of achievement, every graduate from Iowa Lakes Community College’s Nursing program from the December 2022 and May 2023 classes passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®), a standardized assessment required for nurses across the United States to obtain their nursing licenses. Surpassing the national NCLEX® pass rate of 86.82% and the Iowa state pass rate of 83.91% in 2023, the students of Iowa Lakes excelled by securing a flawless 100% pass rate on this demanding skills assessment.
“We are so proud of our graduates over the past 12 months. They have worked extremely hard throughout their associate degree nursing program. The NCLEX® is designed to test if the students have the necessary knowledge and skill base to be safe and successful as a nurse in direct patient care. The fact that all our Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 graduates passed reflects the quality of the Iowa Lakes nursing faculty, our administration, and the dedication of our students,” shared Tanya Killian, Associate Professor of Nursing.
The accomplishment of the thirty Iowa Lakes Nursing graduates passing their initial board exam and achieving a flawless pass rate is particularly noteworthy due to recent modifications to the NCLEX® tests, which now assess not only students’ knowledge but also their aptitude in decision-making through scenario-based questions that gauge their ability to prioritize and solve realistic situations nurses may encounter in their future professional roles.
“The nursing department knew the test changes were coming, and our faculty consistently provided resources and support to our students to be successful with the new format. We have always been confident that our Iowa Lakes Nursing graduates are well prepared to be caring and strong nurses upon graduation. Our 100% pass rate affirms that Iowa Lakes Nursing graduates have the critical skills, knowledge, and problem-solving abilities to enter the nursing profession,” explained Killian.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) administers the NCLEX® to determine if a candidate is ready for entry-level nursing practice. The number of people passing the NCLEX or pass rate indicates the quality of education received and how many new nurses enter the profession in the United States as registered nurses (RN) or licensed practical nurses (LPN).
With an impressive 100% NCLEX®) pass rate, thirty Iowa Lakes Nursing students have achieved the final milestone in the licensure process, marking a confident start to their nursing careers.
