Michael Martens receives Outstanding Alumnus Award
(Estherville, Iowa) The 2019 Jim Hall Outstanding Alumni Award was presented to Michael Martens of Estherville, during the Iowa Lakes Community College Spring Commencement on Friday, May 10. Martens is a graduate of the Criminal Justice Program Iowa Lakes class of 1983.
Deb Weston, representing Iowa Lakes Alumni and Friends Association, presented the award memorializing Jim Hall, a 1968 Iowa Lakes graduate and strong supporter of the college. Established in 1992, the recipient is selected annually by the Iowa Lakes Alumni and Friends Association. It honors graduates who exemplify outstanding support of the community, business and/or service clubs and serve as role models.

Mike Martens
Mike is currently serving a third term as Emmet County Sheriff; and is in his 36th year of law enforcement. His career has focused on service to others. He volunteers with many local organizations and causes including 4H, Estherville Halloween Association, Estherville Rotary, NorthStar Masonic Lodge 447 where he helped raise scholarship funds and served as the Worshipful Master of the Lodge. Mike has also been a member of the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association and their Honor Guard. Mike is also co-chair of Emmet County Making Optimal change for Successful Youth group and a member of First Christian Church where he has served as both elder and deacon. Mike truly has made a difference in his community and across the County.
The Iowa Lakes Alumni and Friends Association congratulate Martens as he joins the ranks of outstanding alumni.
