Meet the Aviation Alumni – Levi Rus

For Levi Rus, earning his degree from the Iowa Lakes Aviation & Airport Management program was the beginning of an exciting career in corporate aviation. After graduating in 2023, Levi is now a professional pilot with Airflair Inc. in Maurice, Iowa, where he flies a Citation 560XL and a Cessna 425.

Looking back on his time at Iowa Lakes, Levi believes the program’s combination of affordability and high standards makes it an excellent choice for aspiring pilots.

“I believe the price point for new students is very attractive,” Levi said. “After visiting campus and talking with students and staff, you’ll quickly realize the emphasis Iowa Lakes places on safety and standards. Combining those two things gives students an affordable education while preparing confident aviators who are ready to bring real-world skills into the workplace.”

One of Levi’s favorite memories from the program came during an early morning flight lesson.

“Waking up before dawn to preflight an airplane for a sunrise flight,” he recalled. “There’s truly nothing like it.”

While attending Iowa Lakes, Levi was involved in the early formation of the Aviation Club and encourages future students to take advantage of every opportunity the college offers.

For prospective students considering a career in aviation, Levi offers simple but valuable advice:

“Take the leap! Study hard and show up. Some days will seem discouraging, but soloing for the first time, passing a stage check, and completing a check ride are incredibly rewarding.”
