Maxine Cass and Deanne Yackle Memorial Scholarship Awarded

(Estherville, Iowa) The Maxine Cass and Deanne Yackle families established this scholarship in 2006 in memory of Maxine Cass and Deanne Yackle. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of two, Deanne concentrated on what she could do during her life, not what her disability would not allow her to do. Proceeds from Deanne’s published children’s book, Jenny and Me, help continue the funding of this scholarship.

The scholarship requires full-time (12 plus credits) or part-time (6-11 credits) enrollment in the Human Services/Disability Studies program OR a documented disability, and financial need determined by the FAFSA. The award is $500 and must be used for tuition, books or fees.

The Iowa Lakes Community College 2019-2020 recipient of the Maxine Cass and Deanne Yackle Memorial Scholarship is Jacob Swearingen of Thompson.
