Last-Minute Registrations Open for Jazz Camp

(Estherville, Iowa) The Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department announces room for more jazz band musicians entering the 7th grade through college to register for the 40th Annual Reggie Schive Jazz Camp at Iowa Lakes Community College, held on June 13 through June 17.
“We still have some room left for musicians to join us at camp and are accepting last-minute registrations. People interested in participating in camp this year should register as soon as possible as the openings are filling quickly,” said Carol Ayres, the Iowa Lakes Instrumental Music and Jazz Band Professor.
The Reggie Schive Jazz Camp, the longest-running jazz education camp in the country, allows students to spend five fun-filled and educationally packed days with world-renowned professional jazz musicians and educators. Participants will have the opportunity to study improvisation, theory, and more through private lessons, combos, big bands, and masterclasses. All of the classes, plus the performance opportunities available, give jazz players a chance to develop individual playing styles while practicing traditional jazz styles and techniques.
This year’s Headliners include Joey Gulizia, Michael Gurciullo, CJ Kocher, Dan Cassidy, Tony Gulizia, Andy Hall, and Rod Fleeman, who is the newest addition to the Headliners team. With decades of hands-on experience performing music professionally, as well as teaching hundreds of thousands of musicians throughout the country, the 2021 Headliners bring a unique mix of talent, hard work, and expertise to the camp.
“The Headliners and staff at camp strive to teach and share with campers their years of knowledge and experience while cultivating a rewarding and fun environment where everyone at camp becomes part of the family,” shared Ayres.
The camp, held on the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College, utilizes air-conditioned rehearsal rooms, the new state-of-the-art Janice K. Lund Performing Arts building, the student center for gathering and meals, and comfortable dorm rooms. The week-long camp culminates in performances by the students on Thursday, June 17. Throughout the week, the Headliners will be performing in a variety of concerts in Estherville and Spirit Lake.
