Last Dollar Scholarship Program Supports Recession-Proof Degree Options

(Estherville, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College offers many targeted, high-demand, and recession-proof career and technical programming options that qualify for free tuition and fees through the Last Dollar Scholarship program.

“Many of our Iowa Lakes graduates are able to work through the COVID-19 pandemic because they have degrees or training in high demand that make them essential employees. These are the types of programs that tend to qualify for the Last Dollar Scholarship program,” explains Steve Pelzer, Financial Aid Director at Iowa Lakes Community College.

The Last Dollar Scholarship program fills tuition gaps not covered by other federal financial aid and state grants for eligible Iowa residents.

Last Dollar Scholarship programs at Iowa Lakes include Agriculture Production Technology, Aviation & Airport Management, Business Administration & Management, Computer Programming, Construction Technology, Digital, Social, & Broadcast Productions, Electrical Technology, Environmental Studies, Farm Equipment & Diesel Technology, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning, Hotel & Restaurant Management, Nursing, Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technician, Welding, and Wind Energy & Turbine Technology.

Students hoping to qualify for the Last Dollar Scholarship program for the 2020 academic year must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) by July 1, 2020.

“If you are considering enrolling in one of the eligible programs, you should focus on completing a FAFSA by the deadline, so you have a chance to receive financial assistance to attend college this year. Turning in the FAFSA before July 1, 2020, is critical for Iowa residents who may qualify for a Last Dollar Scholarship,” said Pelzer.
