Jeannene Larson Performing Arts Memorial Scholarship Established at Iowa Lakes Community College
(Estherville, Iowa) A memorial scholarship established in honor of Jeannene Larson has been made possible by John and Jeannene Larson, along with family and friends to help celebrate the passion Jeannene had for the Iowa Lakes Community College’s performing arts programs and its students.
Larson was a member of the inaugural class of the Iowa Lakes Community College’s Music Hall of Fame and was awarded the ‘Impact’ award in April 2019 for her extraordinary influence on the growth of music programs at Iowa Lakes. As articulated by Iowa Lakes Community College professor Carol Ayers, “Jeannene Larson was such a wonderfully talented person that will be missed by all of us here at Iowa Lakes. Like her role in Cinderella, she truly was a fairy godmother—giving, kind, and always encouraging.”
Through the scholarship, the Larson family hopes to honor a student starting their second semester or higher, who plans to participate in Iowa Lakes Community College’s spring musical productions. The family shared, “rehearsals for the musicals often take place when students would typically be working a part-time job. A scholarship would hopefully provide an opportunity to those who otherwise might not have been able to participate.”
Priority awarding for the scholarship goes to students entering their second semester at Iowa Lakes Community College who plan to participate in the Spring Musical. Successful candidates must be enrolled full-time and maintain a minimum 3.0-grade point average. Up to five students will be selected each year to receive awards ranging from $500-$2,500 and may use their scholarship to alleviate the costs associated with tuition, books, fees, or housing. The scholarship application is available at www.iowalakes.edu/scholarships.
