(Estherville, Iowa) Two Iowa Lakes students earn All-Iowa Academic Team from the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, recognizing outstanding academic achievement, intellectual rigor, leadership, and civic growth. Indian Hills Community College hosted the 2023 celebration in February.

Mercedes A. DePyper, of Graettinger, Iowa, is obtaining her Psychology Transfer Major (Associate in Arts) degree and Associate in Science degree and plans to transfer to a four-year college to continue her education. DePyper’s honors include the Presidents Honor List, Dean’s Honor List, and Presidential Scholars Program.

“My career goal is to research brain diseases as a Clinical Neuropsychologist. I hope to work in a large research facility and facilitate my own study one day,” explained DePyper.

Brooke L. Wright, of Mansfield, Arkansas, is earning her Associate in Science degree with an emphasis in animal science. She loves the outdoors and her honors include Academic All-American, Presidents Honor List, Dean’s Honor List, and Beta Club.

Wright shares, “I plan to work with a veterinarian in a veterinary office, mostly with larger animals, and be outside as much as possible!”

The highest academic achievers in Iowa’s 15 community colleges are recognized in a ceremony every year by the PTK, the world’s largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college students.
