Iowa Lakes Community College to host 1st Annual Health Care Exploration Day

(Emmetsburg, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College will host the 1st Annual Health Care Exploration Day on Friday, March 9 9:00 am. on the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes Community. This year’s event will feature a variety of hands-on learning activities and keynote speaker, Brett Antczak, who will present on the outlook of healthcare careers. There will also be a healthcare job fair held from 11:45 to 12:45, in the Smith Wellness Center. This event is open to area high school students and was chosen as a way for Iowa Lakes to provide students with the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of various medical professions.

“This event will allow us to expose our area youth to health care professions and to show students that they have so many opportunities to achieve their educational goals right here,” Autumn Larsen.

According to the United States Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026. This growth projection shows that the demand for healthcare professionals is increasing at a much faster rate than any other occupational group. This increase would equate to a need for an additional 2.4 million new health care professionals to enter the workforce.

“Much of the projected growth is mainly due to an aging population and a great demand for healthcare services,” said Autumn Larsen.

Students attending this year’s event will also have the opportunity to participate in a “Stop the Bleed” training session. This session is scheduled to take place from 12:45 pm to 2:00 pm and has been developed as a way to educate and empower the general public on basic techniques for bleeding control.
