Iowa Lakes Community College spring 2018 commencement exercises are May 11
The Spring 2018 graduation ceremony for Iowa Lakes Community College will be held Friday, May 11. Following the fall 2017 and spring 2018 semesters, over 300 students have completed or are in progress to complete the requirements for their degrees or diplomas at Iowa Lakes. More than 160 students plan to attend the commencement ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Estherville Campus. Guests are advised to arrive early to ensure seating.
Attendees at the commencement exercises will be welcomed by College President Valerie Newhouse. Janice Lund, President of the Board of Trustees, will acknowledge the Trustees.
Keynote speakers this year are students Kaitlin Walsh and Kylie Wellard.
Wellard, Yuma, Ariz., is receiving her Associate in Science degree from Iowa Lakes. She will be introduced by Mary Faber, Campus Director of Spencer and Spirit Lake.
Walsh, from Medford, Wis., is also receiving an A.S. degree and will be introduced by Katie Larson, Head Softball Coach and Estherville Student Senate Coordinator.
Robert Leifeld, Vice President of Administration, will lead the special recognition section of the evening which will include Abi Sedlacek, Associate Professor, introducing the Presidential Scholars and Christopher Fuhrman, President of the Iowa Lakes Alumni & Friends Association as well as a Trustee of the College, presenting the Jim Hall Outstanding Alumnus Award.
Leifeld will then lead the Presentation of the Candidates followed by Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees Member Pat Kibbie, who will conduct the Conferring of the Degrees and Diplomas.
Ann Wimmer, Professor, and Theresa Waechter, Algona Campus Supervisor, will lead the roll call of candidates. President Newhouse will present the Diplomas and Degrees.
This will be the 11th year that the commencement exercises will be Webcast. Those who are unable to attend the ceremony in person may still watch the event by logging onto the college website at www.iowalakes.edu and then clicking on 2018 Spring Commencement Live Broadcast and following the directions.
After the ceremony, everyone is invited to attend a reception to be held in the college 4-plex which is provided by Iowa Lakes in concert with Buena Vista University.
