Iowa Lakes Community College Offers Veterans Day Program

(Estherville, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College will offer a Veteran’s Day Program honoring Veterans in the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center in Estherville on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 11:00 am. Everyone is welcome to attend the free program. The event will also be livestreamed online for people who are unable to attend.

The keynote speaker will be Retired Chief Master Sergeant Dan Lutat, a twenty-eight-year Air Force veteran. Dan Lutat and his wife, Melissa Lutat, a twenty-two-year Air Force Veteran, and their eight children traveled around the world and the four corners of the United States performing Air Force duties.

Currently, Dan Lutat serves Iowa Lakes Community College as Executive Director of Foundations and Governmental Relations. Previously, Dan Lutat served on the Sustainable Energy Resources and Technologies team.

The program will showcase musical performances from the Iowa Lakes Choir, Iowa Lakes Concert Band, and the Iowa Lakes Handbell Ensemble directed by Professor Carol Ayres and Professor Brett Fuelberth.

Lunch will be served in the Max Dining Hall from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. All Veterans will receive a complimentary lunch.

In addition to the Veteran’s Day program, Iowa Lakes campuses will honor Veterans on the Emmetsburg, Estherville, and Spencer campuses by displaying honor trees. In Estherville and Emmetsburg, student senators will host a free meal over the lunch hour for Laker Veterans, including students, faculty, and staff.

The Emmetsburg Student Senate plans to donate money to the local Veteran’s Memorial for holiday wreaths. On the Algona campus, the Student Senate will display an American flag in the window with a large “Thank you Veterans!” sign.

Iowa Lakes maintains a military and veteran-friendly environment with two Veteran Centers on the Emmetsburg and Estherville campuses, a Peer/Staff mentorship program, and multiple institutional Military and American Legion scholarship opportunities. Additionally, Iowa Lakes has earned many awards, including the “Top Veteran-Friendly” Award, Reserves Patriot Award, Above & Beyond Award, and the Governor’s “Certified Higher-Education Academic Military Partner” or CHAMP college Status.
