The public is invited to attend and the event will begin at 1:45 pm, with the official naming ceremony starting at 2 pm. Those attending are invited to stay afterward for a short reception.

College President Valerie Newhouse, along with Iowa Lakes Trustee, Bob Jennings and Board of Trustees President, Janice Lund, will speak and introduce Lynn Kueck. Kueck will speak to his tenure as a Trustee.

The Trustees chose to name the building after Lynn Kueck who served more than thirty-three years as a Trustee on the Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees.

Kueck, an Algona native, is a lifelong resident of Kossuth County. He graduated from Algona High School in 1962 and was Valedictorian of his senior class. Kueck continued his studies at the University of Northern Iowa and graduated in 1966 with a BA Degree and a major in mathematics. While teaching mathematics and coaching boys’ basketball and boys’ golf at Algona High School, he attended Stanford University in California where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in mathematics. He continued his teaching and coaching career at Algona High School until his retirement in 2001 after 35 years of teaching. At the time of this dedication, Lynn also served as the Mayor of Algona for 20 years.

Early in his tenure as the Trustee from District 7, Lynn recommended to the Iowa Lakes Community College President, Richard Blacker, that an Iowa Lakes Center be established in Algona so more area residents would have the opportunity to earn college credits. Due in large part to Lynn’s efforts, an Algona center did come to fruition in 1986. As a Trustee, Lynn served with enthusiasm and dedication and was a steadfast champion of students. The invaluable strengths he added to the Board from his own long-term teaching and coaching experiences were in curriculum, student engagement, and finance.
