Iowa Lakes “Best of the Best” Veteran Friendly College

(Estherville, Iowa) The U.S. Veterans Magazine has released the prestigious “Best of the Best” colleges for military veterans and Iowa Lakes Community College was selected as the only community college in Iowa to receive this award and one of three colleges in the entire state alongside the University of Iowa and the University of Dubuque.

The magazine, published by DiversityComm, Inc., chose Iowa Lakes due to its dedication to providing outreach, accessibility, and support to military veterans, including students and staff.

“It’s great to know our efforts to deliver exceptional service to our veterans have not gone unnoticed. We hope to keep improving on this quality of service as we go forward,” said Kent Schmidt, Veterans Liaison and Career Center Coordinator.

Iowa Lakes Community College strives to meet the unique needs of military veterans, including two Veterans centers for relaxation and study, American Legion scholarships, free use of the Wellness Centers for military veteran families, and more. As a result, our student veteran population has increased by over 60 percent in the last year and a half.

“Students tell me they have chosen to enroll at Iowa Lakes because of the welcome extended to them by having a Veteran Liaison, the top-notch Veteran Centers, and because they have seen all the awards we have earned over the past few years,” explains Schmidt.

Other awards Iowa Lakes has received this year include the Military Friendly “Silver” award from Victory Media, Support of Guard and Reserve “Freedom Award” nomination, and a Secretary of Defense level recognition given to just 135 employers nationwide.
