(Estherville, Iowa) Thursday evening while completing a solo, cross-country flight, an Iowa Lakes aviation student made an emergency landing on a rural Kossuth county gravel road near Bancroft, IA.
According to Tim Busch, Chief Flight Instructor for Iowa Lakes Community College, “I was in the air at the same time as the student, flying in a different plane. I commend the student for getting the plane down and avoiding serious injury. The airplane had experienced no issues in recent flights, and was current with maintenance requirements.”
Reportedly, the airplane lost engine power. The student received minor injuries and was transported to the Kossuth Regional Health Center for evaluation by the Kossuth County Sherriff’s office.
The FAA was on-site Friday morning to investigate the incident.
