Iowa Lakes Athletics Highlighted At Trustees Meeting
(Estherville, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College Athletics were featured at the board of Trustees meeting Tuesday afternoon in Estherville.
Troy Larson, Athletics Director, Housing Director, and Men’s Basketball Coach gave an overview of the Athletics Department at Iowa Lakes Community College. His presentation included the discussion of athletic numbers and the trends that have been established over the past ten years.
Coach Larson stated, “Iowa Lakes had 79 student-athletes in 2007, and now we range from anywhere from 280-310 student-athletes, annually. This improvement is due to the active recruitment by our coaches and admissions staff.”
“We have also added additional competitive sports, most recently, Sports Shooting. We have 12 male competitors and five female competitors as part of this year’s team,” said Coach Larson.
Larson also provided information about the various fundraising efforts that are currently underway and the many community service projects that the athletic teams take part in annually.
“We take great pride giving back to our communities through these community service efforts. Our student-athletes grow and learn from these experiences”, said Larson.
Completing one community service project per semester is a requirement of each athletic team.
Following Troy’s presentation, the Board had the opportunity to hear from the Executive Director of Community and Business Relations, Jolene Rogers.
