(Estherville, Iowa) The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team will be hosting a Youth Softball Camp on Saturday, February 29, 2020, for grades K-6 and an Advanced Softball Camp on Sunday, March 1, 2020, for grades 7 – 12. The two camps will be at the Christensen building, located on the corner of South 18th St and 7th Ave South, across the street from the Estherville Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Youth Camp will focus on the fundamentals of softball, including sessions on throwing, hitting, fielding, and base running. Grades K-3 will run from 1 pm – 3 pm and grades 4 -6 will run from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm. The cost will be $25 and each participant will receive an Iowa Lakes Softball drawstring bag.
The Advanced Camp will consist of four sessions. The first session will focus on outfield defensive skills, including a variety of throwing and fielding techniques and drills, and will take place from 12 pm – 1:30 pm.
The second session, from 1:30 pm – 3 pm, will consist of offensive skills, including hitting techniques and drills. The third session will run from 3 pm – 4:30 pm and will focus on Infield defensive technique drills. The fourth session’s focus will include the mechanics for pitching and catching and will run from 5 pm – 6 pm. The cost for the Advanced Camp is $35 for one session, $60 for two sessions, $90 for three sessions, or $120 for all four sessions. All advanced camp participants will also receive an Iowa Lakes Softball Drawstring bag.
The Iowa Lakes Spring Softball camps, hosted by the Iowa Lakes Community College Softball Team, provide area youth with the opportunity to be exposed to college-level training expanding the knowledge of softball to younger generations of athletes.
