Instructor Dave Petrick attends professionals’ workshop

Dave Petrick, lead adjunct instructor of the photography program at Iowa Lakes Community College, recently attended a South Dakota Professional Photographers Association workshop in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Petrick attends workshops to keep up with current trends in the photography industry, enabling him to teach students the newest techniques and keep his classes up-to-date.

At the event, workshop presenter Ben Shirk, of Wilton, Iowa, gave a presentation focusing on creating the ultimate client experience and using compositing techniques to create unique images. Shirk demonstrated lighting and posing at live photo sessions both indoors and outdoors. Afterward, he used the session images to show how to create composite images.

Shirk, a world-famous photographer and teacher, recently earned a gold medal in the World Photographic Cup. He has won awards in Iowa, as well as nationally and internationally, and has received worldwide recognition for his unique images.

Petrick is a member of Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Iowa and Professional Photographers of South Dakota. He is also a PPA Certified Professional Photographer— a certification only 2 percent of photographers have.
