FIVE IOWA LAKES STUDENTS HONORED WITH PHI THETA KAPPA ALL-IOWA ACADEMIC TEAM RECOGNITION

Phi Theta Kappa All Iowa recipients

Five outstanding Iowa Lakes Community College students were honored at the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Awards Banquet in Des Moines, Iowa, for exceptional academic achievements, intellectual rigor, leadership, and civic growth. Mariah Geistfeld, Haily Green, Audree Reinhardt, Andres Felipe Rodriguez Martinez, and Hunter Thilges were nominated to join the prestigious 2024 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society All-Iowa Academic Team.

Mariah Geistfeld, a sophomore from St. James, Minnesota, is majoring in Early Childhood Development and plans to graduate this May. Geistfeld intends to further her education at Southwest Minnesota State University and hopes to work in a preschool classroom or a childcare facility.

Haily Green, a sophomore from Comfrey, Minnesota, resides on a farm outside of town, where she raises show lambs and runs a small cow/calf operation. Pursuing Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, Green intends to transfer to Iowa State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in animal science with a minor in genetics, potentially followed by a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition or genetics.

Audree Reinhardt, a freshman from Estherville, Iowa, plans to graduate with Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees before transferring to Iowa State University. Despite her demanding academic pursuits, Reinhardt maintains a 4.0 GPA while actively participating in community and school activities, including the Competitive Dance Team and Estherville Campus Student Senate.

Andres Felipe Rodriquez Martinez, a Fall 2023 Iowa Lakes graduate with an Associate of Arts from Bogota, Columbia, is a Junior at Northwestern College. Martinez is passionate about soccer, music (playing the drums and guitar), and serving God while striving for excellence in all his endeavors.

Hunter Thilges, a sophomore from Whittemore, Iowa, graduated from Algona High School in 2022, where he participated in Future Farmers of America (FFA), 4H, and various sports. At Iowa Lakes, Thilges is a Sports Shooting Team member pursuing his passion for the outdoors, hunting, and fishing by earning Environmental Studies and Associate of Science degrees. Thilges plans to transfer to South Dakota State University to further his Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences education.

The highest academic achievers in Iowa’s 15 community colleges are recognized in a ceremony every year by the PTK, the world’s largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college students.
