Iowa Lakes Trustees Approve FY 2022 Published Budget during February Board Meeting

(Estherville, Iowa) The Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees met Tuesday afternoon for their regularly scheduled board meeting. Tuesday’s meeting was held at the SERT facility on The Estherville Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College and via ZOOM.

Board President, Janice K. Lund, kicked-off the meeting with a report from the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT) and introduced the new Executive Director, Emily Shields.

Shields began her role as Executive Director in January 2021, following the retirement of MJ Dolan. As the Executive Director of IACCT, Shields’ key responsibilities are to lead the 15-member IACCT board, guide and provide support to Iowa community college lobbying and legislative efforts, and foster relationships with government agencies and non-profits.

Scott Stokes, Executive Dean of the Estherville Campus, provided the Iowa Lakes Report covering digital faculty meetings at Iowa Lakes.

“Iowa Lakes transitioned from face-to-face faculty meetings to virtual meetings at the onset of the pandemic. The virtual faculty meetings have allowed us a greater opportunity to socialize, collaborate, and communicate more effectively,” said Stokes.

Dan Lutat, Director of Governmental Affairs/Special Projects, provided a status update on the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Career Connect Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Delaine Hiney, Executive Director of Facilities Management, was granted approval to move forward with Farm Lab Change Order #2. The Farm Lab Change Order #2 includes changing the rock access driveway to concrete, adding an additional water hydrant for cattle, and the inclusion of an additional fire door in the Farm Lab for a total of $27,946.

A Public Hearing was then held for the FY 2022 Published Budget. During the public hearing, Jeff Soper, Chief Financial Officer, shared, “The levy rate will see a decrease of approximately 1.8 cents per thousand, as compared to the previous year.” Following the hearing, unanimous board approval was granted for the FY 2022 Published Budget.

Soper then requested a resolution to authorize the payment of the General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2016.

Additionally, the Board approved the new FY 2022 Campus Housing and Meal Plan contracts and rates.
