(Estherville, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College welcomes Corey Meyer back to Iowa Lakes Athletics as he returns to serve as Head Men’s Wrestling Coach and Completion Specialist, pending board approval, bringing strong knowledge of wrestling, community colleges, and the college student experience. Previously, Coach Meyer spent four years as an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Iowa Lakes before joining the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wrestling coaching staff for the last two seasons.

“We are excited to have Corey back at Iowa Lakes as our Head Wrestling Coach and Completion Specialist. He has a great passion for wrestling and significant experience recruiting the right type of student-athletes. He has been successful at every stop of his coaching career, including at Iowa Lakes. He understands community colleges and what it takes to be successful. Our wrestling program will flourish under Corey’s leadership,” explained Troy Larson, Athletic Director at Iowa Lakes.

At the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Coach Meyer focused on technique development, individual workouts, recruiting, and travel planning. Coach Meyer was instrumental in helping the Blugolds finish two successful seasons from 2021-2023 with titles at the Messiah Invitational, 8 Man Battles (2), Pete Wilson Invitational, Blithe Memorial Duals, and Budd Whitehill Duals. Additionally, the Blugolds had 13 All-American Scholars and 8 NCAA qualifiers. As a result of his efforts, Coach Meyer was recognized as part of the Upper Midwest Regional Coaching Staff of the Year for the 2021-2022 season.

“I’m very excited to return to Iowa Lakes. The wrestling program has a long history of success, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to add to that history. I want to express my gratitude to Athletic Director Troy Larson and the rest of the committee for believing in my vision for the program,” said Coach Meyer.

While an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Iowa Lakes, Coach Meyer helped lead the Lakers to finish 12th, 7th, 13th, and 16th in the country, had 35 NJCAA qualifiers, 11 All-Americans, three national finalists, and one national champion. In addition to coaching, Coach Meyers also helped guide students through the admissions journey as an Enrollment Coach at Iowa Lakes, helping students go from applying for admittance to registering for classes and everything in between.

Coach Meyer received his bachelor’s in special education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2016 and a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in Teacher Leadership from Upper Iowa University in 2020.
