Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center Upgrades Provide Community Members with New Opportunities

Wellness center improvements

(Emmetsburg, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College has recently completed significant upgrades to the Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center’s cardiovascular and weight rooms, including new state-of-the-art treadmills, bikes, seated ellipticals, and a functional trainer designed to offer countless workout styles while targeting multiple muscle groups.

The improvements made to the Wellness Center will better meet the needs of college and community members and were made possible with funding through a generous grant from the Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation (PACGDC) totaling $57,440.

“We were able to update and add high-quality, user-friendly Matrix machines featuring unmatched durability and the latest sleek, smooth designs. The grant helped pay for a significant portion of the more than $76,000 equipment cost,” explained Brenda McAllister, Wellness Center Supervisor and Personal Trainer.

Iowa Lakes recently shared an unveiling of the improvements with members of the Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation, Emmetsburg Community Development Corporation, and the Chamber of Commerce.

“This grant has provided an incredible opportunity for the college and the Emmetsburg community as we work together to promote healthier lifestyles. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the PACGDC. By updating the equipment, we can provide our community with improved facilities that promote physical health and overall well-being all year,” said McCallister.

The Arthur and Aubrey Smith Wellness Center, located on the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College, is a partnership between Iowa Lakes, the City of Emmetsburg, and the citizens of Palo Alto County.

The Wellness Center offers community members an indoor pool and sauna, cardiovascular room, weight room, aerobics room, Racquetball court, fitness classes, personal training, a gymnasium for basketball and pickleball, an open studio, a pool table, air hockey table, and ping pong table.
