Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center offers new options for seniors

Wellness CenterPhysical activity is the number one contributor to longevity, adding extra years to a person’s life, even if they don’t start exercising until their senior years.

“Getting active is not just about adding years to your life, it’s about adding life to your years,” said Deb Knight. “You feel better when you exercise, you’ll feel sharper, more energetic, and experience a greater sense of well-being.”

Walking is one of the easiest and best forms of physical activity. The only thing that is required is a decent pair of walking shoes.

For those with balance issues, a seated elliptical or recumbent bike is a great choice. Cardiovascular exercise is a large component of staying fit and healthy. Keeping up muscle strength is a sure way to improve posture, helping with balance and preventing falls and allowing many to remain in their own homes injury free.

Those who are interested, may wish to check out the Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center, in Emmetsburg. It is the perfect place to work toward a healthier you at any age.

“We have always offered seniors age 60 and over a discount on their annual membership, however, we are now offering it with the option of paying for the senior annual membership on a monthly basis,” said Knight. “Choosing to eat right and staying physically fit and active may cause a bit of expected discomfort at times, but paying for your membership shouldn’t. After all, we can’t really put a price tag on our health, can we?”

In addition, the Wellness Center also offers a “Winter Freeze.” When vacationers leave for two months or more, if they notify the Wellness Center in advance, the expiration date on their membership will be extended to compensate for the time gone.
