What is SAVE?
SAVE is a secondary transitional preparatory program for students on a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) located at the Emmetsburg Campus.

What is the purpose of the program?
The purpose of the SAVE program is to provide special education secondary students with an option where they will receive, based on their IEP goals, further education in the areas of life skills training, vocational/employability skills training, and transitional/self advocacy skills training.

Who Participates?
Special Education students 17 to 21 years old on a current IEP who have transitional needs in the following areas:

  • A need to develop life skills
  • A need to develop employability skills
  • A need to develop or explore vocational skills

If appropriate, a student may complete high school requirements.

Participation in a vocational program may lead to a variety of vocational outcomes including:

  • Vocational Program Competency Lists
  • Certificate Programs
  • Program Diplomas
  • 2-Year AA or AS Degree

Where do SAVE Students Live?
Students will live on campus in one of the following:

  • Independent West Dorm
  • Structured East Dorm
  • Four-Plex

How do I get started?

  • Talk to your high school case manager and/or AEA representative
  • Visit the SAVE Program at Iowa Lakes
  • Meet with SAVE Program Coordinator
  • Meet with Vocational Program Instructor
  • Attend Career Orientation Center Group Meeting
  • Talk about SAVE at your IEP Meeting

Students must enroll in SAVE through IEP and SAVE Program procedures.
