BSN DEGREE: University of Iowa
College of Nursing offers an opportunity for
registered nurses to complete the Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in their home area.
To apply for admission to the UI College of Nursing,
a student must be licensed as a registered nurse in
Iowa and must have completed certain prerequisites
as outlined on the University of Iowa Website at
http://www.nursing.uiowa.edu/academprog/rn-bsn/prereq.htm.
DELIVERY: Students take prerequisite and
supporting courses, most of which can be taken at
Iowa Lakes Community College. The nursing major
courses are offered in a primarily web-based format
with limited on-site meetings. Students can arrange
to take the clinical courses by working with area
health care providers and agencies, with the help of
the Regional Coordinator in locating preceptors. A
nursing faculty member from UI is on site at Iowa
Lakes Community College and is responsible for
teaching and facilitating courses, and for providing
guidance and advisement to enrolled and prospective
students.
APPLICATION: Interested students may request a
no charge evaluation of their previous school
transcripts and receive a curriculum pattern and
suggested plan of study based on their individual
needs. Students who are currently in an associate
degree nursing program are encouraged to seek
advisement early if they are interested in applying
for this program.
