MOONLIGHT MADNESS GETS AN ‘ENERGY KICK’
THIS YEAR
There will be a new ‘kick’ to Moonlight
Madness in downtown Spencer this year.
The event will be held from 5-7 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 29 where each business will
have their own “ghoulish” specials. The
“kick” will be courtesy of the members of
the Iowa Lakes Men’s Soccer team who will be
on hand to get to know shoppers and
encourage them to attend a Halloween
‘costumed’ scrimmage the following night.
“This will be a bit different and we think
this will enhance our annual event,” said
Bob Rose, Executive Director of Spencer Main
Street Company.
Also on display that evening will be
pumpkins carved by 4th graders in
Spencer. Those will be judged and displayed
in the windows of downtown businesses and
visitors will want to view the unique
designs of the pumpkins.
Individuals interested in soccer will want
to stop at several businesses on Grand
Avenue throughout the extra two-hours that
businesses are open that evening.
Soccer players will be stationed at The
Pizza Ranch, Arts on Grand (please enter
through the back door, if needed) and
Carey’s TV & Appliance on the east side of
Grand Avenue; and at Spencer Sewing, Goal
Kick and Kari’s on the west side of Grand
Ave. They will hand out fliers promoting
the Halloween ‘costumed’ scrimmage starting
at 5 p.m. Friday at the “Lakehouse” soccer
field just east of 10th Ave.
East. They will also sign autographs on
photos of the Lakers soccer team members.
“We really encourage people to shop the
Moonlight Madness event this year because
our players want to get to know more people
in the community,” said Coach Kevin Farley.
The Halloween costumed scrimmage is a
long-time tradition for teams of Coach
Farley.
“After a long tough season, it’s just a
great event for the players to have some fun
and get into the holiday spirit. We award
prizes to the team members who are wearing
the best costumes but the ‘pride’ of being
the best is what the players take with them
the rest of their lives,” said Coach Farley.
“We invite everyone to come out on Friday
(the 30th) at 5 p.m. It’s a
great opportunity to for young children to
safely Trick or Treat as well as meet the
new college soccer players. We encourage
kids to stay afterwards for the candy,
courtesy of the soccer team,” Farley said.
