KATIE RICE SIGNS WITH IOWA LAKES

Iowa Lakes Community College head softball coach Mike Bosch has announced the signing of pitcher Katie Rice of Homewood, Illinois to a National Junior College Letter of intent.  The Homewood Flossmoor graduate was a three time All-Conference selection and has been a varsity pitcher since her freshman year.  Rice was recently named as one of the top 100 players in the Chicago area by the Chicago-Sun Times.  Katie currently plays for the Illinois Rebels and carried a 0.95 ERA for the Rebels last season.  Katie was instrumental in the Rebels reaching the 2000 ASA National Tournament and won two games for the team at the ASA nationals.

"Obviously we are very excited to have Katie here," commented Bosch.  "Pitching is certainly a key ingredient in our game, and Katie is a tremendous pitcher.  She can mix 6 or 7 different pitches with changes in velocity and movement.  Add in the fact that she has big game experience and handles herself well on the mound and you have an impact player and a great young lady.  We are looking forward to having Katie be a student/athlete at Iowa Lakes."

Rice is the daughter of Douglas and Patricia Rice of Homewood and will be enrolled in the Arts and Science program at Iowa Lakes looking to major in Elementary Education.
