Spencer native Charlie Doyle has been selected as a bass trombonist for the 17th Annual Iowa Collegiate All-Star Concert Band. Doyle, a sophomore elementary education major, is the son of Todd and Amy Doyle of Spencer.
The 100-piece band consists of musicians from 18 Iowa colleges. Students are nominated by their college instructors, and a selection committee chooses the final members. Members will audition for chair placement during the group rehearsal before the concert.
“Charlie is very deserving of selection to the All-Star Band,” commented Carol Ayres, Instrumental Music Instructor at Iowa Lakes. “He is an excellent student and we appreciate all of his contributions to the Music Program at Iowa Lakes.”
The guest conductor this year is Lowell E. Graham, Chairman of the Music Department and Director of Orchestra Activities at the University of Texas El Paso. He has held numerous conducting positions, including Commander and Conductor of the United States Air Force's premier musical organization in Washington, DC. As a USAF Colonel, he became the senior ranking musician in the Department of Defense.
The Collegiate All-Star Concert Band will perform on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the Ames City Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert is in conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators Association.
