Letter to Directors

I am pleased to invite you and your choirs to the annual Iowa Lakes Jazz/Show Choir Festival. The festival is set for Tuesday, January 22nd, and Wednesday, January 23rd.  This will help schools prepare for the State Swing Choir and Jazz Choir Festivals.  Your choir will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced clinician who will work with your choir for at least 20 minutes after their performance.

We have 20 time slots for show choirs and 8 slots for jazz choir performances. Last year we had 26 schools sign-up, so please make sure to get registered early!  We have added a second site and clinician for the jazz choirs on Tuesday, so if you are registering a jazz choir, please register for that day.  Show choirs can register for either day.

Part of the reason for the growth of the festival is because of the fabulous clinicians that have served at the festival.  This year, Clay Blackman from Omaha will be serving as the Show Choir clinician, and Jane Andrews from Wartburg College will be serving as the Jazz Choir clinician. Each performance and clinic session will be videotaped and taped comments will be provided.  Certificates will be awarded to students for Outstanding Soloists.  All junior high and middle school show choirs are also welcome to participate in the festival.

For Show Choirs:  the performance area will be a 30’x 50’ stage.  Three levels of 4’ x 8’ platform risers will be available for you to use.  Also, you may make use of the following provided equipment:  P.A. with five microphones, bass amp, piano amp, ten musical stands, and an acoustic grand piano.

For Jazz Choirs, you will have access to a P.A. with 16 microphones and an acoustic baby grand piano.
