The Spencer Hospital Healthcare Scholarship was created in 2008 when the hospital decided to establish a scholarship for students in the medical field. Awards are $500 used for tuition, books or fees. Requirements include full-time enrollment in Nursing, Paramedic Science, Pharmacy Technician or Surgical Technology; permanent resident of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto or Pocahontas counties in Iowa; and, a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to nursing students planning to pursue a BSN.
The 2012-13 recipients are Travis Grimm, Justin McCormick, and Alyssa Simpson of Spencer; and, Tracey Tewes of Paullina.
