Iowa Lakes Community College is announcing the establishment of several new scholarships.
The Carrington Baker Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Carrington Baker, a student who touched many lives during his two years at Iowa Lakes Community College. He was a strong leader in the Laker Life Club and a Youth Leader at Grandview Baptist Church. During his time at Iowa Lakes, Cary announced to the Laker Life club that his dorm would be open to anyone who needed a safe place to go, or just to come for fellowship with other ‘Laker Lifers.’ This scholarship will help keep the tradition. Candidates for the Carrington Baker Memorial Scholarship must be a member or have interest in becoming a member of the Laker Life Christian Club while living on and attending the Estherville campus. Both part time and full time students are eligible. Two recipients will receive $500 scholarship for the 2012 – 2013 academic year.
The David Benz Motorcycle Scholarship was established Jody and Tony Condon to honor Jody’s father and his passion for motorcycles. David Benz had his first experience with motorcycling in 1960. Since then he has owned and ridden many motorcycles. Due to a hunting accident he lost his leg and needed to find a new career. In 1980 he enrolled in the Motorcycle and Small Engine Program at Iowa Lakes. Over the years he has been employed working on motorcycles, small tractors, and cars. His passion for the motorcycle industry continues. The successful candidate for this $500 scholarship must be enrolled in the Motorcycle and Small Engine Technology Program at the Emmetsburg campus as a full time student. Candidates must show financial need and have and maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, or tools.
The Caring For Life Scholarship is a direct result of the Iowa Lakes Class of 2012 Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) Club. The club has established an endowed scholarship to begin a legacy for future A.D.N. students. Eligibility requirements for candidates include full time (12 credits or more) enrollment in the A.D.N. program and nursing specific community based volunteer criteria. This $500 award will be applied in the second semester of the recipient’s sophomore year. The award must be used for tuition, books, fees or program supplies.
The We Believe Massage Therapy Scholarship was established from the Iowa Lakes Foundation’s We Believe giving campaign. Annually, Iowa Lakes employees along with community businesses and individuals donate to this campaign for the betterment of the college and its students through scholarships or program improvements. Requirements for eligibility are full-time (12+ credits) or part-time (6-11 credits) enrollment in the Massage Therapy program. This $500 award must be used for tuition, books, fees or program supplies.
