In 1997, the John and Johanna Thomas Memorial Scholarship was established. John and Johanna resided in Estherville, where in retirement John was an avid pilot and ham radio operator. The couple was very involved in the Wallingford Lutheran Church, where John served on church council and taught Sunday school for many years. Requirements are full-time enrollment and Engineering Transfer program. Award amount varies and must be used for tuition, books or fees.
The 2012-13 recipient is David Boyd of Charles City.
