The Gene Leonard Memorial Scholarship was established in 2002 to provide financial support to students residing in areas Gene farmed. This scholarship is administered by Iowa Lakes Community College regardless of where recipient attends college. Requirements include permanent resident and high school graduate from northwest Palo Alto County, Iowa, or southwest Emmet County, Iowa; full-time enrollment; a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and financial need determined by FAFSA results.
The 2012-13 recipients are: Hannah Beernick, Joe Clayton, Michael Cole, and Samantha Marlow of Estherville; Austin Bonnstetter and Adam Kerr of Cylinder; Danielle Carrigan, Jordan Christensen, Kaitlyn Degen, Tyler Drost, Kristen Fedele, Justin Kibbie, Parimal Patel, and Daniel Pelzer of Emmetsburg; Cody Chapman and Miranda McGrauth of Ruthven; Shelby Guse of Ringsted; Brandon Hampson, Tiffany Harris, and Mitchell McGrauth of Graettinger; and, Krista Pelzer of Armstrong.
