Friends and classmates of Marty Groth, Estherville High School Class of 1972, have established an endowed scholarship fund. Marty had a creative talent and a strong passion for art. He demonstrated this talent in many different forms while in high school, and also during his two years at Iowa Lakes Community College. Marty graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College in 1974, with an Associate of Arts Degree with emphasis in Art. Marty passed away in 2004, and as the 10 year anniversary of his death approaches, his classmates are pleased to create an endowed scholarship that bears his name.
Candidates for the Marty Groth Memorial Art Scholarship must be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at Iowa Lakes Community College, possess/maintain a minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA, and complete the scholarship application. The scholarship is open to students with a major in Art or Graphic Design. The first $500 scholarship will be awarded for the 2013 – 2014 academic year. Interest generated by the principle will allow the fund to grow.
“This scholarship opportunity speaks to the dedication of lost friends. Marty touched many lives and his friends and classmates have put a lot of thought and consideration in establishing this scholarship opportunity,” said Jolene Rogers, Executive Director Community and Business Relations.
Students attending Iowa Lakes from anywhere, who have a passion for art, are encouraged to complete the scholarship application if they haven’t already. Selection will be made mid-October.
Those who haven’t completed the Iowa Lakes Scholarship application for the 2013 – 2014 academic year should visit the Iowa Lakes website at www.iowalakes.edu. Deadline to apply is October 1, 2013. Students need only apply once per academic year.
